Current standards for lighting are mainly defined by quantitative metrics.Perceiving light is however based on psychophysics.Better quality of light provides improved visual acuity,better response and optimal color sensation.Understanding the complex dynamics of the eye and effects in the human brain are since the introduction of LEDs for general lighting more acknowledged.The spectral composition of light affects the functioning of the eye and body.Spectrally enhanced light is nowadays a hot topic in IES publications on S/P ratio.The cirtopic sensor in the eye,controlling biological processes,is only discovered in 2001.Better spectral quality of light,adjusted to the biological and physiologic functioning of the eye can result in drastic energy savings in general lighting.The specific advantages of spectral enhancement of light will be enlightened in this paper.
