Shearing interferometry is a well established method of visualizing flow structures in transparent media.As with other commonly used visualization techniques,it relies on the variation of the speed of light with the density of the medium the light is passing through [1].However,as it is a density-based method,the contrast between flow features and the background illumination will decrease with decreasing density.
