In general, Europe may be divided into three distinct geographic areas based on the prevalence of MDROs: the northern countries the Netherlands and Denmark including Scandinavia with a relatively low prevalence up to 14％, Germany, France and UK with a moderate prevalence up to 25％ (including Bulgaria, Belgium, Hungary, Ireland, and Spain), and the southern countries Portugal and Greece (including Cyprus, Malta, and Italy) with a prevalence up to 68％ (table 1).
