Neurons are the core components of the brain,which are cells that process and transmit information through electrical and chemical signals.In vivo high sensitive acquisitions for electrophysiological or neurotransmitter signals from neurons in deep brain nucleus are important for neuroscience research and will contribute to underlying the pathogenesis of related nervous or mental disease.In this paper,we will provide an overview of silicon based implantable neural microelectrode array and discuss opportunities to use nano-materials to enhance performance of the biosensors for biochemical and electrophysiological detection.In particular,in vivo continuous detections of glutamate,dopamine and spikes,local field potentials(LFPs)of neurons in deep brain nucleus of Sprague–Dawley rats,mice and non-human primate,were demonstrated using the biosensors with high sensitivity.
