Sulfatases(SULFs)play an important role in the cruciferae specialist,Plutella xylostella(L.),in counteracting the glucosinolate–myrosinase defensive system or mustard oil bomb. The activity of sulfatases is regulated by post-translational modification of a cysteine residue by the sulfatase modifying factor 1(SUMF1).To date, however, the SULF and SUMF genes in P.xylostella and their regulated expression have not well understood.
