The performance of organic solar cells has been dramatically improved in the last few years by employing nonfullerene electron acceptors.The charge separation yield at a bulk heterojunction sets the upper efficiency limit of an organic solar cell.Previous studies in polymer/fullerene blends suggest that charge separation is mainly enabled by dissociation of Frenkel excitons absorbed by polymer donors.
