Contrast sensitivity (CS) plays a fundamental role in human vision.Contrast sensitivity function (CSF) describes how contrast sensitivity changes with spatial frequency and is believed to characterize our visual ability more precisely.Although CSF testisroutinely used in clinical practice and widely applied in computational vision,what determines CS at different spatial frequencies remained elusive.In the current study,we applied an external noise method to probe the limiting factors underlying contrast sensitivity at different spatial frequencies within anobserver model framework.
