Hong Kong has since 1997 returned to the Peoples Republic of China as a Special Administrative Region (SAR).After the historic handover,various housing policy measures had been instituted to promote co-residence between elders and their adult children reflecting traditional Chinese familial concerns and promoting respect for elders. Contrary to such a collectivist Cultural lineage,the new regimes adherence to neo-Conservative legacy in social policy orientation puts emphasis on individual responsibility in welfare.
