The peculiar properties of lanthanide complexes are in favorable in technological applications such as optoelectronic devices and flat panel displays.Nevertheless, they have not so far been used extensively in practical applications as tunable solid-state lasers or phosphor devices mainly due to their poor thermal stabilities and low-mechanical strength.Encapsulation of these complexes into sol-gel-derived materials can circumvent these shortcomings and can therefore lead to lanthanide-based luminescent hybrid materials.[1-3] We are interested in encapsulation of lanthanide complexes into the channels of zeolite L to improve the thermal stability and photo stability of lanthanide complexes and to make functional materials with hierarchical ordered structure[4-7].Herein we report recent progress we made with this regard.
