When voyaging, ships are subject to inevitable hull deformations caused by the changes of environmental temperature and external stress. It is a crucial error source for measured data of the spacecraft TT&C (tracking, telemetering and control) ships.Based on the poor performance of existing methods, a videometrics based approach is proposed for vertical hull deformation measurement, which has the characteristic of high accuracy, simple structure, convenient maintenance and little changes for ship structures. The transformation formula of the vertical hull deformation angles and Euler angles is derived, on the basis of which the hull deformation angle estimation method based on fold-ray videometrics is further extended to the vertical direction. The experimental results have demonstrated that the proposed approach performs well in terms of accuracy and robustness, and it therefore has a promising application prospect in hull vertical deformation measurement.
