Breast cancer is curable when diagnosed early at stage, though one third of the patients with breast cancer die of the disease due to local invasion and distant organ metastases.FDG-PET imaging has been valuable in detecting local nodal and distant metastases in patients with breast cancer.The sensitivity of FDG-PET imaging has been improved by adding the dual-time point imaging (imaging at two different times) and assessing the correlation between FDG accumulation and a variety of prognostic factors including histological subtypes (invasive-noninvasive) and receptor states of the breast cancers cells.FDG-PET imaging, as a noninvasive and simple procedure, contributes to delineate invasive small breast lesions, lobular and mixed forms of breast cancer and predict the biological aggressiveness of the disease.
