The lake variation of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is regarded as one of the important and sensible indicator for global climate change.And the lake surface area variations can reflect the regional environment directly particularly for ungauged regions.So we studied the lake surface area variations of five lakes (including Yamzhog Yumco, Chen Co, Kongmu Co, Bajiu Co and Puma Yumco) in Yamzhog Yumco basin, South Tibet, China.Among the five lakes, three lakes were completely ungauged.Constrained by lacking observation and the availability of hydrological data, the boundaries of lakes surface were interpreted artificially based on 37 images from Landsat, CBERS and HJ-1A/1B satellites, and the lake areas were calculated separately with the support of GIS.
