Studies have been carried out to determine maximum recovery of Co, Mn and Zn from zinc plant residue in H2O2-H2SO4-H2O solutions.Hydrogen per oxide is used as a reductive agent.The leaching parameters such as sulphuric acid concentration, solid to liquid ratio, time and amount of hydrogen per oxide were varied to study their effect on metal extraction.The optimum conditions established were as follows: 20 gr/lit sulphuric acid, S/L of 1∶10, 3 %(V/V) hydrogen per oxide and ambient temperature.Under these conditions, more than 90% of Co, Mn and Zn could be extracted within 20 min.Also,"Extraction procedure tests" approved by EPA were applied to the residue to determine the amount of released metals and were compared with toxicity limits given by EPA for the solid wastes.
