Plastid(chloroplast)genetic engineering has a great promise in plant biotechnology.It has several attractive advantages such as high-level of transgene expression owing to the polyploidy of the plastid genetic system,transgene containment via maternal inheritance and absence of gene silencing and pleiotropic effects.
