定量浮游植物生长率与温度的函数关系是研究全球变暖对海洋生态系统初级生产力影响的基本工作.前人工作大多表明浮游植物生长率(或光合作用速率)随温度上升而上升的速率(即温度系数)比浮游动物生长率(或异养生物呼吸速率)随温度上升而上升的速率低,从而可能引起全球发暖导致海洋生物代谢进一步趋向异养以及浮游植物生物量的进一步降低.
