Background: Optic neuritis (ON) usually occurs in women of childbearing age.To date, the influences of pregnancy on ON are uncertain.Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of pregnancy on Chinese women with optic neuritis.Methods: In this retrospective study, we analyzed clinical features, visual outcomes and therapy in a subgroup of women with pregnancy related ON attacks (during pregnancy or within one year postpartum) in the neuro-ophthalmology department of Chinese Peoples Liberation Army General Hospital (PLAGH) from January 2012 to December 2014.None of the patients had any coexisting multiple sclerosis (MS) or neuromyelitis optica (NMO) prior to the first pregnancy related ON attack.
