Mast cells are central effectors of allergic and inflammatory reactions.When triggered,mast cells secrete a large array of pre-stored inflammatory mediators including vasoactive amines such as histamine,proteases and chemotactic factors.In addition,upon activation,mast cells also produce and release arachidonic acid metabolites including leukotrienes and prostaglandins as well as multiple cytokines.Together,these secreted mediators result in the progression of the immediate inflammatory response as well as in the onset of the late-phase inflammatory responses Basic secretagogues are receptor mimetic agents that trigger mast cells by activating directly G-proteins.
