Nature can be investigated from two different perspectives1: The reductionist approach focuses on the building blocks at a lower level, and assumes that the macroscopic properties are determined by the microscopic components.On the other hand, the holistic approach emphasizes on the interaction between the components, and pays more attention to the emergent properties that are not present in its building blocks.These two different approaches should complement each other: otherwise we will not have a complete description of the nature.
