White acicular crystal B was isolated from extracted part I of Duzhongye by solvent method,column chromatography and recrystallization etc purification Methods,the structure was identified to be β-sitosterol on the basis of the physicochemical property and spectroscopic data.The rats osteoblast/ovarian granular cells co-culture system and their separate culture system were established to study the regulation of Duzhongye β-sitosterol on homeostasis of bone metabolism.The results showed that it might be one of the mechanisms of promoting ossification that Duzhongye β-sitosterol can significantly stimulate ovarian granular cells to secrete E2 and effectively increase the ratio of OPG/ODF in osteoblast.
