The binucleate species Rhizoctonia cerealis Van der Hoeven belongs to the Rhizoctonia AG-DI anastomosis group and is the causal pathogen of sharp eyespot in wheat in China.Mycoviruses are widespread throughout the major fungal groups, usually without causing any discernible phenotypic changes;however, some mycoviruses cause phenotypic alterations including hypovirulence and debilitation.DsRNA viruses were reported in as Rhizoctonia cerealis endornavirus 1 (RcEV1).Our present study found the mitovirus in the other R.cerealis strains, which may impact the pathogenicity of its fungal host to plant, and tentatively proposed the name RcRV-M.Sequence analysis showed that the 5end completed dsRNA sequence is 3149 nts long and contains a single open reading frame (ORF) with the potential to encode a protein of 812 amino acids containing a mitovirus RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) conserved domains.Translated sequence of RcRV-M showed 32% ~43% aa similarity to Sclerotinia sclerotiorum mitovirus 7, 11, Cryphonectria parasitica mitovirus 1-NB631 and Ophiostoma mitovirus 1b,which consequently appear to be a new mitovirus.The funture study is to complement the full sequence of the RcRV-M, and analysis its interaction with the host fungus.
