　　Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) 1 and 2 regulate neural cell growth,differentiation,and self-renewal capacity.FGF1 is unique among FGFs in that it binds to all known FGF receptors.We previously showed that FGF1B mRNA is expressed in the areas that are known to be abundant for neural stem cells.We further showed that the brain-specific FGF1B promoter is active in mouse neural stem cells.Further,we characterized an 18-bp sequence of FGF1B promoter,which is crucial for the regulation of brain-spe-cific FGF1 expression.
