YLK-40 in COPD and its correlation with different clinical parameters

　　Background: YKL-40, a novel biomarker in COPD, not only participates in the inflammatory response but also promotes angiogenesis.The objectives of our study were to evaluate serum YKL-40 in relation to clinical disease severity and laboratory parameters in COPD, and to discuss its relationship with IL-6 (interleukin-6) and VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor).Method: Circulating levels of YKL-40, IL-6, VEGF in 40 patients with stable COPD, 40 patients with acute exacerbation COPD and 19 healthy subjects were relatively measured by ELISA.Radiological examination (CT emphysema index) and lung function parameters were to assess disease severity classification.Symptoms (mMRC, CAT), BMI (body mass index), frequency of exacerbations (hospitalization time), and the smoking burden were collected.Some other laboratory parameters such as CRP (C-reactive protein), FIB (plasma fibrinogen) and the peripheral blood neutrophil cell count were also acquired.
