Objective To quantitatively assess the brain iron deposition in the deep gray nuclei of multiple sclerosis (MS) by using susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) technique.Methods Eighteen cases of patients with clinically proven MS,which included 10 cases of released-remitting MS (RR-MS) and 8 cases of secondary-progressive MS (SP-MS),and 16 cases of age-match healthy volunteers as controls were performed to the MR examination,especially to the SWI.Bilateral phase values of groups pallidus (GP),putamen (PUT),caudate nucleus (CN),substantia nigra (SN),red nucleus (RN),thalamus (THA) and pulvonar thalamus (PUL) in the SWI “filtered” phase images were measured and compared between MS patients and controls,and then the comparison between the MS subtypes was further analyzed.
