A general synthetic strategy for core-shell microcrystal Cu2O@HKUST-1 heterostructures has been developed. The core-shell nanostructures possess the functions of microparticle cores and microporous shells, which offer great potential in heterogeneous catalysis. The synthetic strategy relies on the morphological replacement of a shaped sacrificial metal oxide used both as a metal source and as an architecture-lirecting agent by an analogous MOFs architecture. In addition, we have demonstrated that solvent composition and reaction temperature are two crucial factors for successfully fabricating well-defined Cu2O@HKUST-1 heterostructures.
