The scavenging effect improves the torque in low-speed conditions and reduces the response time of turbocharger for TGDI engine.In this work,the influence of scavenging effect on a turbocharged GDI engine performance was investigated.The functions and characteristics of scavenging effect were analyzed based on the engine test results.The methodology of predicting lambda inside the cylinder was proposed based on the relation between lambda and the concentration of CO,CO2,O2 and other species found in this study.Furthermore,the control strategy for determining the target VVT values and the target lambda values under the scavenging condi-tions was studied.
