Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of bronchoscopic argon plasma coagulation (APC) for tumorous endobronchial tuberculosis. Methods: In this study, we analyzed the records of 52 patients with tumorous EBTB.Diagnosis of TB was confirmed by microbiology or histopathology.Bronchoscopic examinations revealed that patients had tumorous endobronchial tuberculosis.26 patients receive bronchoscopic APC plus routine anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy and the other 26 patients received routine anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy alone. We compared the treatment effect of these two groups. The outcome measures were the changes of lesions, the rate of disappear of lesions and complications of bronchoscopic APC.Results: The complete remove rate was 100% in patients with bronchoscopic APC plus routine anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy; the complete remove rate was 84.6% in patients with anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy alone; the rate of disappear of lesions in bronchoscopic APC plus routine anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy group was faster than that of anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy alone group. There were no severe complications from bronchscopic APC.Conclusions: Bronchoscopic APC can accelerate the healing of tumorous EBTB and help to prevent progressively bronchial stenosis due to tumorous EBTB and is a very safe method.
