Since, the 18th century taxonomists are classifying organisms based on morphological characteristics which require lot of time, expertise and experience.Especially mosquito species identification requires collection of live specimens without losing any morphological characteristics or to be reared in the laboratory from immature to adult. In the present study DNA sequence variations in the barcode region of Cytochrome Oxidase I (COX I) gene is subjected to test its usefulness in the identification of mosquito species. However, the efficacy of this tool for mosquitoes remains scare.Hence,a study was undertaken to construct DNA barcodes for mosquito species identification.
