Object is to present the outcome and long-term follow-up of 12 patients with primary hereditary dystonia treated by deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the internal pallidum (GPi).Nine of the 12 patients were positive for DYT1, two patients were siblings and negative for DYT1, and one patient was positive for DYT3.Eleven patients had generalized dystonia, excluding a girl negative for DYT1 who had postural hand tremor and focal dystonia.Bilateral GPi DBS was performed in all the patients, and the follow-up period ranged from 24 to 100 months. All the patients were evaluated using the Burke-Fahn-Marsden dystonia score (BFMDS) before and after starting DBS stimulation.
