The objective of this study was to determine the affects of dosing with probiotic bacteria in feedlot cattle. The trial involved feeding inducted feedlot cattle with a commercially available direct-fed microbial (DFM) containing a consortium of 7 probiotic bacteria. It was administered in the daily ration of 10 purebred Angus steers,in conjunction with 10 control animals without DFM feeding, for a period of 76 days. The main result of the DFM treatment was an enhanced capacity to mount a cellular immune response to vaccinal challenge.
