Scallop has been the one of most important mariculture animals in China since early 1980s.There are 4 species of scallops, Chlamysfarrari, Chlamys nobilis, Argopecten irradians and Pactinopecten yessoensis cultivated along the coastal areas of China.Chlamys farrari and Chlamys nobilis are the native species distributed in northern and southern China respectively.Pactinopecten yessoensis and Argopecten irradians are the introduced species from Japan in 1970s and USA in 1980s respectively.In 2007, the total annual mariculture production of scallops reached to 1.16 million MT.Longline culture is the major method for scallop in China.
