Drought Identification and Assessment over Sindh, Pakistan during 1951-2010

  Drought is one of the complex meteorological disasters which strengthen temporally and spatially.Drought occurs due to relative scarcity of rainfall with respect to intensity, duration and amount.It effects with passage of time on water resources,agriculture, livestocks and socio-economic pattern of the region.It is difficult to predict but can be monitor on the basis of the climatology and its distribution over a region.In this study, we provide high spatial and temporal drought climatology by using the station data, gridded data (0.5°x0.5°) from Global precipitation Climatological Center (GPCC) of precipitation and soil moisture data from Climate prediction Centre (CPC).These data of past sixty years (1951-2010) explained the time, duration intensity and frequency of drought period for Sindh.by using the precipitation data of (0.5°x0.5°) Global precipitation Climatological Center(GPCC)and station data of past sixty(1951-2010) which explain the time, duration intensity and frequency of drought period.For stationary and regional analysis, Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) on different time scale (3, 6, 9, 12 and 24) and Rum Method were calculated by using Regional Drought Identification Model (REDIM).
