The Town of Vladimir is the large industrial centre in the Central part of the Russian Federation.Large machine-building and instrument-making plants,Termal Power Plant, food industry enterprises are within the city limits.Motor ways with heavy traffic cross the city. That is why soils of urban landscapes are subject to great teehnogenic load.Criteria pollutants of city soils are heavy metals, surfacants and other ones which are toxic for living organisms. It results in the formation of technogenic anomalies in the zones of plants impact and disturbance of ecological soil function.[1] Estimate of soil pollution due to the excess of maximum permissible concentrations of pollutants in them does not permit to obtain the real picture of soil microbiocenosis, disturbance level of ecological soil function and its self-cleaning capacity because soil pollution is of multiple character and not all pollutants are regulated and controlled. But sometimes uncontrolled substances have unfavourable impact upon pedobiont state. To register the impact of all anthropogenic factors upon soil we have investigeted such its parameters as phytotoxity, cellulosolytic activity, buffering of soils to acids and heavy metals.Phytotoxity characterizes very important soil function-its productivity.Phytotoxity estimate was made due to the inhibiting value of germination of seeds and growth of plants sprouts. The highest value of phytotoxity shows soils in technogenic abnormal zones (inhibiting coefficient was 1.5-1.6).These soils possess the least cellulosolytic activity (30-25%).Estimate of soil buffering to acids was determinated by change value of its acqueous extract after adding 1 mmol of hydrochloric acid per 100 g of air-dried soil.[2] Urban soils are characterized by mean stability to acid preciritations. We used buffering scale developed by V.B.Ilin to estimate soil buffering to heavy metals.[3,4] Estimate was carried out using such soil parameters as its active and hydrolytic acidity, carbonate content, humus, one and a half oxides, physical clay. Each factor was estimated in scores.Content of physical clay in soil was very important factor in estimate of it to heavy metal buffering. This clay absorbs and keeps heavy metals in soil under different acid-alkaline conditions.Taking into account heavy metals as criteria pollutants in Vladimir soils, reactions of soil solutions close to neutral and using the results of estimate of soil buffering to heavy metals the city soils as a whole may be characterized as those with mean buffering power. Thus, now soils of Vladimir keep their filtring ang environment forming functions. It is confirmed by low level of granding water pollution, slight phytotoxity, mean level of acids and metals buffering.
