人脑如何从清醒态"N"变化到睡眠态"零",存在两种不同观点:神经生理学的flip-flop switch模型认为,两种脑态之间发生"瞬间切换";睡眠精神病学的观点认为,两种脑态之间的变化需要时间,并用"睡眠潜伏期"来描述.由于现行方法(EEG、CBT、睡眠报告等)难以对脑的微行为和微结构进行探测,以致两种脑态之间变化的脑过程仍然不清楚.近来,一种通过"行为学量"的"实时"监测,来探测两种脑态之间变化的方法,取得长足进展,使得两种脑态之间变化的研究有了可靠基础.本文以该方法为基础,从系统角度,初步分析两种脑态之间的变化,发现:处于变化过程中的脑,(1)其认知水平既不同于清醒态"N"也不同于睡眠态"零",介于"N"与"零"之间,并难以维持恒定水平; (2)"间歇的"自发觉醒使人脑认知水平难以"瞬间"降到"零",反复的认知水平降低和自发觉醒构成了两种脑态变化的过渡过程;(3)在过渡过程的最后阶段,神经发生了突然关断,使人脑进入睡眠.过渡过程的存在,具有重要的生态学意义,它使得人类在遇到风险时不会因为大脑突然进入睡眠而遇险.
