Gastric adeocarcinomas (GCs) remains the leading cancer in China. Despite advances intreatment, the outcome is poor. Recent studies suggest that the mechanisms of tumorigenesis aredifferent between proximal and distal GCs.?However, the differences in HER2 expressionbetween proximal and distal GCs of Chinese patients remain unknown. The aim of this study wasto compare HER2 expression and its correlation with clinicopathological variables betweenproximal and distal GCs that were surgically resected at a single high-volume center in China. Weretrospectively searched a prospectively established pathology database on GCs resection caseswith HER2 immunostain results over the period from January 2007 to August 2009. A total of 957consecutive cases were identified, including 513 proximal and 444 distal GCs.
