A gas chromatographic analytical method for the determination of 3-octanone in occupational atmospheres was developed based on the criterion of WS 1-1996.Air samples are collected in silica gel solid sorbent tube which was maintained by an SKC "Universal Pump" with the air flow-rats of 0.05 or 0.2 L/min.The sampling periods ranged from 15-min to 8-h shifts and the volumes were 3 to 24 L.sample was eluted with 1 ml methanol and quantification of 3-octanone was carried out by gas chromatography equipped with a 30 m×0.32 mm FFAP capillary column and a flame ionization detector.Operation conditions of gas chromatography were: temperature of the injection block, 150℃; temperature of the detector, 280℃; oven temperature, 75℃; split, 1/10.The presented method show good linearity over the range of 5~1000 mg/L (r=0.99987) with RSD<2.1%.
