A NOVEL FOURIER-RELATED DOUBLE SCALE FINIETE ELEMENT TO STUDY THE INSTABILITY PHENOMENA OF SANDWICH

  This paper presents a new Fourier-related double scale analysis based on a novel plate element to study the buckling and wrinkling phenomena of sandwich plates.The layerwise structures are modeled using the classic plate theory in the skins and high-order displacement field in the core.Compared with the tradition FEM, the two dimension sandwich plate model can save the degree of freedoms significantly to achieve the numerical simulation.Subsequently, a Fourier transform is applied to the novel model that offers several advantages.Firstly, the computational efficiency is improved significantly by only evaluating the envelopes of instability patterns.Secondly the proposed reduced model allows one to select modal wavelength that makes it easy to pilot non-linear calculation.Thirdly, in contrast to Landau-Ginzburg envelope equations, it may remain also valid in post-bifurcation stage.The simulations of buckling and wrinkling phenomena with the sandwich plates submitted to various working conditions are discussed.Conclusions can be made that the proposed double scale model has significant improvements on computational cost and stability to obtain the accurate results.
