Aim The effects of age and gender on Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats learning and memory were studied with Morris Water Maze.Methods By using Morris Water Maze monitoring and analyzing system,we evaluated the learning and memory abilities of neonatal and adult SD rats respectively.According to the development rules of SD rats,we chose the rats 28 d old as neonatal rots and 2 months old as adult ones.The rats were divided into four groups by age and gender:1) female SD rats of 28 d old,2) male SD rats of 28 d old,3) female SD rats of 2 months old and 4) male SD rats of 2 months old.The experiment included the hidden platform test which lasted for the first four days and the probe test on the fifth day.Escape distance of the hidden platform test,time percentage spent in target quadrant and platform-crossing times of the probe test were chose to evaluate the performance of the rats in Morris Water Maze.
