Successful and reliable chromatographic assays depend upon transferring the specified volume of a representative aliquot of sample to the column. The factors affecting the reliability and fidelity of the sample injection are reasonably clear but the management of carryover remains a complex and technically challenging task. This has proven especially true as more sensitive mass spectrometers become readily available.More stringent demands are placed on the performance of the LC system and sample specific chemistry concerns become more prominent. For methods requiring quantification across multiple orders of magnitude, the sample delivery design must accurately and reproducibly deliver sample to the chromatographic column without distorting the composition.
