Aims: A negative correlation relationship between daily intake of caffeine-containing drinks and the risk of depression has been found in a relatively large population sample.Theacrine, a natural purine alkaloid obtained from Camellia assamica var.kucha, is similar to caffeine in chemical structure.Our pilot study has shown that theacrine is a potent anti-depressant.However,the mechanism is not clear.This study aimed to investigate the anti-depression effect of theacrine by utilizing diverse stress models.
