The thermal stability of a FeF3 cathode was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).The lithiated electrode was found to be more thermally stable than delithiated one.On the other hand, the thermal stability of cycled FeF3 electrodes in electrolyte was investigated by changing the ratio of electrode to electrolyte.Exothermic reactions were observed for the mixture, which were mainly due to thermal decomposition of the electrolyte.Compared with lithium transition-metal oxide cathodes, which could induce electrolyte to generate heat drastically,FeF3 cathode mixed with electrolyte showed much less heat generation due to the absence of oxygen in the electrode.
