Background Myofascial trigger point acupuncture stimulation has been reported not only to be useful for the management of pain,but also to affect the autonomic nervous system.The aim of this study was to investigate the effect ofmyofascial trigger point (MTrP) stimulation in healthy subjects using Itohs human MTrP model on sympathetic skin response (SSR).Methods Ten healthy males who gave informed consent were enrolled in the study.For the MTrP model,the subjects performed repetitive eccentric exercise of the third finger of one hand (three sets at the approximate 10 minutes interval) until exhaustion.The outcome measurements were changes in SSR and de qi sensation (The Numerical Rating Scale,NS;0 no de qi 10 severe de qi) in the first phase of SSR and the second phase of SSR.The acupuncture stimulation were performed for one minute at the non-MTrP (the first phase: before the MTrP model was formed) and MTrP of extensor digitorum muscle (the second phase: after the MTrP model was formed).
