Objectives:Our retrospective study was carried out to demonstrate the value of,indications for,and results of use of the anterior approach with decompression and instrumental stabilisation in paediatric patients with unstable vertebral body fractures at the thoracic-lumbar junction.Methods:357 patients aged 17~58 years were operated on from 1994 to 2004.All these patients were admitted with unstable vertebral body fractures at the thoracic-lumbar junction with incomplete spinal injuries and were operated on within 24 h after sustaining the trauma:This approach provides excellent visualization of the anterior aspect of the dura mater for decompression.Reconstruction of the anterior body defect with autograft Supplementation of the graft with anterior internal fixation helps prevent kyphosis.
