In his famous 1900 ICM address Hilbert suggested that mathematicians address the issue of obtaining a rigorous derivation of laws of macroscopic continuum gas dynamics from the Boltzmann equation of the kinetic theory of gases.In this talk I will address Hilberts problem(the 6th problem in his address)and suggest that based on analysis,laboratory experiment,and computer simulation Hilberts goal is not achievable.
