Muscle spasm is a sudden contraction of a skeletal muscle.It can attack any skeletal muscle in the body.Several factors maycause muscle spasm.Some of them are cause by metabolic impairments.Vasodilatation of the arterioles in the muscle may relieve the condition.Electroacupuncture can be applied to stimulate parasympathetic nervous system.Some of the parasympathetic fibers are nitrergic fibers (nerve fibers that secrete nitric oxide).Stimulation of these parasympathetic fibers will elicit secretion of nitric oxide (NO) or peptides, such as Calcitonin GeneRelated Peptide (CGRP), that relaxes the arteriole smooth muscles.
