Occurrence and Migration of Polychlorinated Biphenyls in the Multi-Media of Ny-(A)lesund, Arctic

　　Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) were analyzed in the air, sediment, soil, plant and animal dung/feces collected from Ny-(A)lesund, Arctic in order to explore their residual levels, migration and transport patterns.PCBs were ubiquitously detected in the abovementioned environmental media, and PCB spatial distribution pattern exhibited a general southward decline from the stations located at the bay entrance to the inner bay (Fig.1).According to concentration ratios of soil, plants and feces, no distinguished selective adsorption of PCBs congeners in plants existed.The unexpected low ratios of plant to feces were found, which was explained that PCBs in the plants samples were might mainly attributed to the air deposition and PCBs in the feces volatilized into air after the long-term exposure to air.The fugacity ratios in vapor, aerosol and soil suggested that the equilibrium were not reached in the multi-media and the net deposition direction was air-soil.
