Brain oxytocin(OT)regulates aspects of emotionality and stress coping, releasing in response to both positive and negative stimuli in various hypothalamic and extrahypothalamic brain areas.Pharmacological studies have documented that inhibition of OT action in selected brain areas can potentiate the behavioral stress responses and activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal(HPA)axis.Yet,the mechanism for the anxiolytic effects of OT is still not well known.
