Thioalkyl agaroses are a series of hydrophobicinteraction chromatography (HIC) adsorbents exhibiting a special selectivity in purification of macromolecules. To improve purification of rHBsAg, a vaccine molecule from CHO cells, a type of thioalkyl agarose, butyl-S-QZT 6FF, is synthesized and applied in the separation. The adsorbent is prepared by two steps: (i)activating cross-linked agarose beads with epoxides; (ii) coupiing butyl groups to the activated gel.
