Channa argus is an important freshwater cultured fish in China. The wild snakehead fish declined sharply.13 polymorphic microsatellite markers were isolated and characterized using (CA)15-enriched genomic library of C.argus.These loci showed high levels of genetic polymorphism testing on 30 individuals sampled from Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, China. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 3 to 14 and the values of observed heterozygosity and expected heterozygosity varied from 0.700 0 to 1.000 (average =0.94) and from 0.566 7 to 0.9211 (average =0.84), respectively. These microsatellite loci can be used to assess genetic diversity and population structure of wild populations in C.argus.
