This paper briefly analyses the main technical ways and development trends of automotive lightweight. The pathways mainly refer to materials, forming processes and structure optimization. Metallic materials including high strength steels, low density al- loys, cast irons, powder metallurgy materials, etc. Besides, plastics, glasses, composites are also considered. We also give some typ- ical examples to show their practical applications and good results.
