This presentation is to commemorate the giant and pioneer of condensed phase spectroscopy,Michael Kasha, who passed away on June 12,2013 at age of 92.Kashas great contribution to the modern spectroscopy: the triplet state,Kashas rule, the heavy atom effect, singlet oxygen,excited-state proton transfer events should be engraved in our heart eternally.Relevant to Kashas rule that governs the emission spectroscopy in condense phase this talk will be mainly focused on a "fundamental" issue; that is to present the new insight into the relaxation dynamics of the highly excited states.Although this talk is keen on the kinetics implication,I believe that the associated mechanisms and their consequence in steady state spectroscopy as well as potential applications should receive great attention in the audience.Amid this talk, several new phenomena will be disclosed to underline their associated new excited-state fundamentals. These include the harnessing of the ratiometric fluorescence/phosphorescence via intersystem crossing in the higher lying excited states, the fluorescence up-conversion via reverse intersystem crossing and manipulation of dual emission resulting from the excited-state proton transfer reaction.Throughout this talk,I hope the participant can gain updated knowledge regarding spectroscopy and dynamics of some emerging materials and their latent applications optoelectronics.
